Colin Lagasse went back to old form on Friday night.

After being injected at the quarterback position last week after star QB Michael Brewer went down with an injured shoulder sustained Sept. 3 against Hendrickson, Lagasse made big plays on offense but his biggest might have been on defense.

An Honorable Mention All-State safety last season as a sophomore, Lagasse sealed the game after coming down with an interception at the goal line with 2:23 remaining and a potent Kerrville Tivy offense marching.

Lake Travis, which had its 48-game winning streak snapped last week, had a comeback 37-33 victory over the Antlers at Cavalier Stadium.

“That interception made it that much better,” Lagasse said. “I was happy to do it for this defense because they were the one’s working so hard all game. It felt good to help them out.”

The Cavs’ defense allowed Tivy QB Johnny Manziel to rush for 273 yards on 37 carries and four touchdowns. Manziel who is contemplating offers from Oregon and Texas A&M, after a recent visit to College Station, also completed 18 of 26 passes for 195 yards.

“I told people all week long that he reminded me of Brett Favre on a motorcycle,” Lake Travis coach Hank Carter said. “He’s very, very fast, very strong and throws the ball great. What an excellent athlete.”

Lake Travis spotted Tivy 19 points early, but responded with three scores to to carry momentum into halftime.

Griffin Gilbert’s leaping touchdown (his second of the night) with 7:40 remaining in the game put Lake Travis ahead 37-33.

Lagasse was 15 of 22 passing for 219 yards with two touchdowns, while rushing for 85 yards.

“We started the new streak tonight,” Carter said. “I’m hoping for 12 more after tonight. That’s the goal.”
