Led by their senior quarterback JaQuarius Daniels, Reagan had lofty goals heading into Friday’s matchup.
Daniels said: “We wanted to shut them out, and we had to score every time we touched the ball.”
Nearly executing that goal, Daniels orchestrated the Raiders to seven touchdowns on eight possessions leading them to a 51-20 victory against Eastside Memorial in District 26-4A play at Nelson Field.
Reagan’s (1-6, 1-2) only stalled drive was their first time touching the ball in the second half.
The 6-foot-6, 220-pound QB finished 9 of 14 for 123 yards, with two touchdowns, while running for 149 yards on 12 carries. He also returned an interception 55 yards for a score.
“I feel like a new man with this first win,” he said. “We executed to perfection tonight. We can get the win next week (against Crockett) and I still believe that we can go to the playoffs.”
Joseph Keys added two scores on the ground, totaling 111 yards for the Raiders.
Memorial (1-7, 0-4) got two cosmetic touchdowns late in the second half of their homecoming night. Desmine Shaw had a touchdown run and catch, while he finished with 127 yards on 12 carries.
